How to Add Slide Numbers in PowerPoint

There are so many ways you can make your PowerPoint presentation look more polished and organised. Of course, we’re trying to share with you most of them and now it’s time to show you how to add slide numbers in PowerPoint. 

Why should you care about page numbers? Well, adding these to your slides will improve the overall structure of the deck and will make navigating through it much easier. What’s more, inserting slide numbers will be helpful for referencing different parts of the presentation when it’s time for Q&A.  

So, let’s jump straight to the steps you need to follow if you want to number your slides. 

How to add slide numbers in PowerPoint? 

Slide numbers are added from the Header and footer section in PowerPoint. 

Step #1. Open your presentation and click the Insert tab. 

To insert numbers, go to the Header & Footer section

Step #2. Click the Header & Footer option and check Slide number.

You can also select the Don’t show on title slide option if you want numbers to start from the second slide.  

Step #3. Click Apply to All if you want all your slides to be numbered and just Apply if you want a number on the current one only.

You can now see the results. 

Oh, and if you want your pages to start from a different number, you can do this by going to the Design tab > Slide size > Number slides from.

From the new box that will appear on your screen, select the preferred number under Number slides from and then press OK. 

How to change the position of the slide numbers? 

You can re-position the page numbers by clicking the Slide Master view. Select the # box (you have to see four-headed arrow) and then drag it to the desired position.

When you’re happy with the changes, click Close slide master.
