Inspire yourself not just from other presenters

Inspire yourself not just from other presenters

A podcast episode with a lawyer served as yet another reminder: If you want to become a better presenter, you don’t need to just study other public speakers.

Here’s a quick (but definitely incomplete) list of other places to look for inspiration:

Want to tell better stories?
Watch stand-up comedians and attorneys at work. They both master the art of storytelling and know how to keep an audience engaged. At least, the good ones.

Want to design better slides?
Get inspired by docuseries (notice their motion effects and how they visualize data). Also, look at industries like fashion, architecture, and interior design for lessons in layout, contrast, and simplicity.

Want to improve your delivery as a public speaker?
You can watch great stand-up artists or actors, sure. But also study politicians—especially when they’re under pressure in debates or interviews. Watch how they handle tough questions, control their body language, and own the room.

Which industries or people are you learning from?
