Train The Trainer at SoftUni (Mistake 24 of 50): Filler Words
The previous one was on using foreign words (most time some those are some English ones) and now, let’s talk about one of my favorites!
Mistake: Using a lot of filler words like “umm”, “ah”, “so”, etc.
Why is this a problem: Not only are those filler words disrupting your flow, but if you indeed use them constantly during your presentation, then your audience will just turn you off at some point. It is really annoying to hear someone say “ummm” after every 5th word.
Solution: Rehearse your presentation until you are completely sure that you know your material so well that you don’t have to even look at the slides. Once you know you don’t have to think about your content, say to yourself that you need to focus and think about only 1 single thing – removing the filler words. With that thought in your head, attack the next 5 – 10 presentations and I guarantee that you will see a dramatic improvement.
Here, now you are 24 steps closer to becoming a great trainer. ?
