Are you making progress with your Canva presentation design? If so, let us share with you something fresh. Now you can download your presentation from Canva and transfer it to PowerPoint. If you combine the two tools, you can make awesome slides!
For example, you can start bold with Canva, make progress, and then make the final touches in PowerPoint, like implementing advanced content and effects like charts, tables, and animations.
So let us show you how to export from Canva to PowerPoint.
💡Last updated in November 2022
1. Saving a Canva presentation as a PowerPoint file
When you are ready with the slides in Canva, just click on the Share button located in the upper right corner, then go to More…

… and scroll down until you see the Microsoft PowerPoint option. (You can also type it in the Search field to spare yourself the scrolling). This will save the presentation as a .pptx file.

Note: Make sure that you own the images in your Canva presentation or they’re free to use, unless you’re on the Canva Pro version.
This will be the confirmation you should see before downloading your Canva presentation as a PowerPoint document.

2. Open presentation in PowerPoint
When you open your presentation in PowerPoint you’ll notice that your design looks different. If you don’t have the fonts you used in Canva on your computer, you will see a different font. However, you can find this font on the internet and download it. Alternatively, you can replace it with a font that you already have in PowerPoint.

Another thing that may not work after the .pptx export are Canva charts. In PowerPoint they will turn out like simple shapes, meaning they’re not considered charts anymore.
If you don’t need your chart to be editable just fix the text the way that you want. But if you need a real chart that you can easily edit, you have to make it again in PowerPoint.

Simple as that!
That’s how you can save your Canva presentation as a PowerPoint file. You can work with both and achieve awesome results! what if im not a premieum user.. i just try the free trial to present it on my report in school
Hey, Ashlee! Yep, you can still download it with a free account. As you might notice from the screenshots, we are also using the free version to do the examples for this post so you should be able to do it as well.
Hi,
I was sent a link to a presentation in Canva and asked to upload it into a google drive file. I opened the link, but there is no visible way to download it. The three dots on the right do not give me options to download or save as a ppt or anything else for that matter.
Do I need to create a Canva account to download this? How would I proceed to download it once I’ve created an account.
Thanks
Hi there,
To download a Canva presentation, you must either be the creator of this presentation or a collaborator. If you were given collaborator’s rights, you must have a Canva account. From then, you can just use the Share button in the upper right corner of the app.
So in your case, create a Canva profile first, and then if you have any issues, don’t hesitate to write us again!
Hello! I do not have these 3 dots on the screen… What can I do?
Hey, Sara,
The export function is now located through the Share button in the upper right corner, then choose More, and then scroll down till you see the Microsoft PowerPoint icon or use the search field to type PowerPoint.
And you have it!
I am having issues downloading it and having the pictures used in canva to display onto the screen in powerpoint. I am a premium user so im wondering why this will happen.
Hey! So you created in Canva (premium subscription) and then you downloaded it / exported it to PPTX but the images do not show up in the PPT?
yes me too, how please?
So we just opened a free account to test with one of their built-in templates again. Exported the deck to both PPTX and PDF and both of them show everything. Check the files and let us know if you are seeing everything correctly: https://we.tl/t-mCWssD9RnA
Are the images you are using ones that are in Canva or are they ones that you uploaded?
Here is what we just received from Canva:
We understand you’ve had issues with the images that cannot be displayed when downloaded as PowerPoint file. This isn’t what we want you to experience.
We’ve checked your design and was able to identify that the elements disappear when downloaded as PowerPoint due to the following reasons:
• You may have been using an Office version older than Office 2016
• You may have tried viewing the design on Office 365 which you are currently not subscribed
• You may have viewed the design on either Keynote, OpenOffice, and Google Slides
If any of the following applies, please follow the steps below:
1. Access to the web version of Office
2. Try opening the file
3. Save and download again after the images have appeared.
We hope this helps! Please let us know you need anything else.
Can someone check that and let us know what happened?
Well, I had the exact issue, and thankfully to you I followed the steps and it worked. Download your Canva Powerpoint normally with the displayed pictures, then open your office acc on the web. Open your Canva file through the web and your elements will appear! then download it again from the web to your device, HAHAHA! Long process but it worked for me!
Good to hear 🙂
Hello! I’m also having trouble since the pictures in canva did not appear in the PowerPoint presentation when I downloaded it. The picture/element was free.
What do you think should I do?

Hello! The Canva to PowerPoint thing worked. But when I opened the converted file into PowerPoint, the missing elements are now texts saying, “This picture can’t be displayed”.
Is there an alternative solution to this?
Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Hello, same problem as above. A free account. The template is free, and the images/elements are also marked as free in it. Still, when I export to *.pptx, the images and elements are all gone, only their placeholders are there with a mention “The picture can’t be displayed”. I definitely need the *.pptx to be editable in Power Point.
I checked your exported file above and it really shows everything correctly. But mine wouldn’t.
My template and the one I need is the “English Lesson, Teacher Avery” free presentation template. Please advise. Thank you and Merry Christmas to the whole team!
Super interesting. Let us do the following. Let us try to find a solution for you through Canva (we know them) because it’s obviously a bug on their end. Will keep you updated. Make sure you have notifications turned on for this one so that you can see once we have news.
Were they any solutions to this? I had the same issue. Used a Canva Presentation Template. Am a premium user. Downloaded as PowerPoint and all the images aren’t showing up. Ah! How obnoxious!
Not yet. We are constantly asking Canva to update us on this but no answer from them for now on our ticket…

Hi, I did it but it continued the same thing. I really need to resolve this. Would you like to see another way to fix it?
So what did you done exactly meaning… what did you change so that we can try to help. One of the best options you have btw is unfortunately to also reach out ASAP to Canva’s support too…
Hi. Everything downloaded great from Canva to PP but everything seems to be in PP as a different ratio/ size as opposed to if I create in PP from scratch. This makes it very difficult to mix PPs originally done in PP with those exported from Canva to PP or copy slides between files in PP. Any thoughts?! Thanks!
Unfortunately not. Did you create a ticket to Canva also?
Hi, i’m facing the same problem.
Can’t seem to get it exported with images appearing in ppt.
I’m a premium user. So it shouldn’t be an issue with pro/free images yeah?
Shouldn’t be, yeap.

The presentations open perfectly in LibreOffice but not in PowerPoint, same as everybody.
We are already in touch with Canva. We raised a support ticket with them so… let us keep you posted 😉

Hi there, I am encountering the same issue as all above (Canva elements only, all free etc.), and getting a “Picture cannot be displayed” notice for all after downloading as ppt. Looking forward to news of a fix! Thanks!
We are also waiting for news from Canva, so let’s see what happens at the end…

same problem here
We are still waiting for Canva to respond… 🙁
Hello! When I download the powerpoint slide, the colors do not transfer properly. How can I get exactly what’s in canva downloaded with the proper colors?
I would say that as a new feature there are still so many issues in this export. We have opened support ticket with Canva for all of you here but we are still awaiting response.

I am having the same issue. It seems that when January 2021 started, I began to have issues of “pictures cannot be displayed’ on downloaded templates from ppt. I tried to open my previously downloaded templates from canva which I downloaded around october to december of 2020, I was able to open it without issues on images. I just observed that concern with the images recently. Does it have something to do with my OS? I am commonly using my laptop with Windows 7 pro as the OS where i am having issues with canva. but on my windows 10 laptop, no hassle and issues with canva. Please help us resolve this. I am a premium user and Canva is very helpful for me. I am planning to subscribe for Canva Pro, so please i hope i wont get disappointed. 🙂
Doing everything in our powers to push Canva to give us feedback why are so many experiencing this… I would doubt that it’s a problem on an OS level. I would guess this is some issue in Canva after a specific update in their service…

It is strange, i tried it on 1 PC and 1 laptop.
For the PC everything loaded fine in powerpoint, in the laptop i got the ‘pictures cannot be displayed’ problem.
Tried with the same export and presentation. I did notice that the computer uses powerpoint version 2012 and windows version 1909. The laptop uses older versions so i’ll update the laptop to these versions to see if that helps.
Let us know when you have something! 🙂

I have opened pro account and paid the fee but I am having trouble with pictures in canva did not appear in the PowerPoint presentation when I downloaded it. And also ppt says ‘ ppt could’nt read some pictures and removed it bla bla’ Could you please check it?
Dilara, a lot of people are faced with this issue. We opened ticket with Canva but… still nothing on their end. I believe that now everyone who has this problem should start opening support calls so that they see how many people are struggling because of that. Maybe that will make them take a serious look…
Thank you Boris. I hope Canva corrects this error asap!
I am not positive for this based on what’s happening as of now. Will push again now and let’s see if something will happen. I now believe that everyone of you struggling with this issue should open a case with them because I now feel like that is the only way for them to see the impact and how many people are affected…

Hi, Boris!
I tired this – sadly, it did not work. It shows perfectly in online 365 but still does not download correctly….
Which version of PPT are you running on desktop so that I can report it to Canva?
Hi, Boris.
I’m running Powerpoint for Mac, Version 16.16.27 (201012)
I have reported it as well.
Thank you!
Nice! Let us know if you have something 🙂
Bonjour, et pour faire l’inverse ?
Est-ce qu’il est possible d’enregistrer un doc ppt sur canva ?
Merci d’avance pour votre réponse
Hello, can you please shoot the message again in English? 🙂
Looking forward to it already!
Unfortunately, I’m having the same problem and have Office 2016. The icons show up fine in Canva and even on the webe version of Office, but once on my computer (dowloaded from Canva or re-downloaded from the web version of Office) they can no longer be displayed. I opened a ticket and they gave me that same cut and paste reponse- I replied back that my version is 2016 and their workarounds do not work. Waiting on a response.

I completely lost my entire presentation yesterday. 37 pages of work right before my presentation to a board. I somehow opened another template and it completely erased my whole presentation. I searched the trash and it is completely gone. I thought I had saved it because every time I went into Canva the presentation was there for over 3 weeks and I just kept updating. I am a premium member so imagine how upset I am and I had no where to seek help
Now I am recreating the document and i want to make sure before I go on that I am saving it. II thought I was but now I am not sure. I am getting a message that says “Your recent changes haven’t been saved you might lose your work. It will not be good if I lose this a second time. Please help me.
Hi Denise,
Sorry to hear about your situation, we know how stressful this can be. But let’s try something that might help! Go to your original presentation – the one you changed the template of and that way erased everything. Go to File -> Version History. You said you are a Premium user i.e. Pro, so you should have access to this handy feature that should keep your presentation from before you’ve changed the template.
If in the future you push the “Apply all XX slides” button while creating your presentation, just press Undo (Ctrl+z / Cmnd+z).
Either way Canva automatically saves your presentations. In your case you just changed the whole template which erased your progress.
We hope you will find the version you need! Drop us a line if you do.
Good luck!
Hello!
I’m trying to download the animated presentations, however it came just the design (without the animations). Do you know anyway to download it correctly?
Thank you!
Hi there Thais,
Sadly Canva has stated that animations, as well as video and audio, won’t play when exported as PowerPoint. Something you can do to keep them is to export as a video (mp4).
Drop us a line if we can help in any other way.
Hi there, I see people had trouble with the results of the PPT export. I can’t see an option for PPT though. The only options I see are PNG, JPG, PDF standard and print, MP4 and GIF. Has this been disabled, or am I looking in the wrong place.
Hi Sandy,
can you go to the three horizontal dots menu in the upper right corner of Canva. There you can find the Microsoft PowerPoint icon. We guess there was some kind of update and rearrangement of the options but this is still available.
Thank you that was super helpful
I made a Powerpoint Presentation with animations in canva and exported it to Ms powerpoint but the animations are not present. Am I doing something wrong or is this expected?

Hi, Im having trouble, when exporting the canva template to PPTX. It keeps saying that it fails to export. But I do not know the reason why. Can someone help me with this?
Hey Mallory,
Sorry for the late reply!
We would love to help you, but can you share some more details about the issue?
I appreciate your post. I liked reading the content you provided. I hope your website continues to publish content like these. Thank You!
